Anita Barry

New Brunswick, NJ

Anita Barry 92, of Hillsborough passed away on April 8, day of the eclipse in the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ. Born in New Brunswick, Miss Barry resided in the city until 1980 than she moved to North Brunswick. She has been a resident of Hillsborough since 1986. 

Miss Barry was a teacher who started her career in the Pinegrove Elementary School, Franklin (Somerset) and then transferred to the brand New Franklin High School in 1962 where she taught Mathematics until retiring in 1989. 

A self-sufficient and driven individual, Anita drove herself everywhere until her 80’s. She loved to travel the world (especially to Africa and Asia) to see the animals in their natural habitat. She traveled to 5 continents, all but Antartica where she wanted to go. She was a long time member and former President of the Franklin Township Education Association and NJ Education Association. She was a member of the Hillsborough Senior Clubs. Music was also an integral part of Anita’s life. She enjoyed all types of music from Opera to Broadway shows to Doo Wop and Jazz. She loved to sing and had been a 50 plus year member of the Princeton Jersey Harmony Chorus, “Sweet Adeline’s”.

Predeceased by her parents the late Nathan and Dora Gross Barry, her late brother Francis Barry and her late sister Shirley Barry Anita, is survived by her nephew David J Barry of Monmouth Junction, her niece Marilynn S Barry Boeker of Highland Park, and great nephew Barry O Boeker of Highland Park.
