Anita Wolfson, 103, passed away peacefully, on February 6, 2026. She was the daughter of Edith Goldstein Hahn and Irving Hahn, and was raised in Newark, N.J.
Anita graduated from Douglass College with a B.A in Music Education, from Rutgers with a Masters in Music Education and from the Royal Conservatory of Music at the University of Toronto with a Certification to teach the Orff Philosophy of Music. She taught music in the New Brunswick Schools for 30 years, served as an Orff clinician, and was a co-founder of the Central N.J. chapter of the National American Orff Schulwerk. Her passion was music, and she sang in the Rutgers's University Choir, for 22 years, and in the Raritan Valley Choral Society, and in her last years with the choir of Anshe Emeth Temple, where she was a member. Anita had also been a long time member of Temple Shalom, formerly of Plainfield.
Among other things Anita was an avid student of the Course in Miracles, and a regular participant in the New Jersey Miracle Center in Bound Brook. With her late husband Walter, she was privileged to travel widely which they both enjoyed. Anita was very family oriented and did all she could to record the family history and keep members in touch with each other. Anita was a constant reader and loved to do crossword puzzles.
Anita served on the board of the English Speaking Union for many years, and was president of her class at Douglass, and Treasurer of the N.J. Miracle Center. She was well known at the Associated Alumnae of Douglass College, because she volunteered there in various ways for which she was awarded the Douglass Alumna Recognition Award, and the Vanguard Award. She was also a long time volunteer at the Parker Home.
Anita was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Walter, and her brother-in-law, Sol Elsner.
Anita leaves behind a beloved daughter Katharine Richter (Alan), a beloved son, Irvin Wolfson (Brenda), cherished grandchildren, Beth Sara and Marc Jason Richter, and Sarah Emilie and Elliott Wolfson and Elliott (Barret), great grandsons Walter and Chester. She is also survived by a sister Beverly Elsner, a brother Joseph Hahn (Eileen), nieces and nephews, and four great nieces and nephews, with all of whom she felt very close.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, 222 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ, 08901.
