Averell Eisner

February 14, 1942 – February 20, 2026Averell Eisner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, technologist, and lifelong problem-solver, passed away on February 20, 2026. He was 84. Born on February 14, 1942, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to Robert and Edna Eisner, Averell grew up in Highland Park, NJ. From an early age he displayed a deep love of math and science — the foundation of a life spent at the frontier of technology. He attended Rutgers Preparatory School and later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, carrying with him a disciplined, analytical mindset that would define both his career and his approach to life.Averell was a true technologist at heart. In the early days of computing, he worked on mainframe systems at Interdata, where he would sometimes bring his children into the office on weekends. They remember playing with punch cards that fed the massive machines — an early glimpse into a world that fascinated their father. As a programmer at Bell Labs, he worked on pioneering prototypes in the early 1980s that used camera technology to track the location of trains — work that was far ahead of its time. Entrepreneurial by nature, he founded Eisner Associates Inc, becoming a Hewlett Packard Value-Added Reseller. Developers loved working with him because he spoke their language — precise, technical, and fluent in problem-solving.From his first marriage, he was blessed with two sons, Ken and Noah. In 1978, he married the love of his life, Eileen, and together they completed their family with their daughters, Shanna and Erica. Married for nearly five decades, they created a lifestyle grounded in warmth, resilience and shared purpose. They valued friendships, family traditions and education. Every morning at school drop off, Averell would say his farewell word, “concentrate”, a small ritual that became a lifelong lesson. A devoted father, Averell coached his sons’ early soccer teams and could often be found at the stable helping care for Shanna’s horse and taking serendipitous adventures with Erica. He was a man of many talents who cherished the natural world, delighting in animals, butterflies, birds, fishing and gardening. He was a man who showed up — whether on the sidelines, at the marina, or with a toolbox in hand. A steadfast supporter of Jewish causes and community, Averell carried forward values of commitment, generosity, and intellectual rigor throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, independence, craftsmanship, and deep family devotion. He believed that all problems have solutions: machines could be improved, a long tennis rally was a great way to start a day, conversations were always worth having, and a pun never hurt. His life was one of building — systems, businesses, boats, and most importantly, a family united by love that carries forward his analytical mind and generous spirit. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Eisner; his brother, Sherman (Ellen) Eisner; his children, Ken (Patricia) Eisner, Noah (Sarah) Eisner, Shanna (Michael) Hirsch, and Erica Eisner; and his cherished grandchildren, Wilson Eisner, Ben Eisner, Lucia Eisner, Alessandra Eisner, Eli Hirsch, and Sylvia Hirsch.
