Georgia H. (Bernstein) Weiner, 92, passed away peacefully at her home with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Georgia moved to the New Brunswick area when she was 14 years old and entering into high school.
She earned a Master's Degree in Special Education and taught in the Special Education Department of the Spotswood school district for many years. She also an executive at IEEE, and helped her husband, Charles, at Bernstein's Fashions, before retiring in 2015
Georgia was a founding and lifetime member of Women Helping Women. She belonged to the Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple Sisterhood and was a lifetime member of Hadassah and the MS Society. She was a very generous person who supported many non-profit and political organizations.
Predeceased by her parents Max and Anna (Cohen) Bernstein and her siblings, Georgia is survived by her devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy Oppenheim, Kerry and Andrew Elkind and Anne and Herb Cohen, her loving grandchildren Jordon Elkind and Matthew Birkhold, Gavriel Elkind and Jacob Mirsky, Jason and Krissy Cohen, Joshua and Amanda Cohen, Steffen and Debra Levine, and Douglas Cohen and Stephanie Levine, and her cherished great grandchildren Sydney, Noah, Jordyn and Ayla Levine.
Funeral service will be held at the Chapel at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 1 pm. Entombment to follow. Shiva to follow at The Colony House, 1050 George Street, New Brunswick, Apt.15 M.
