Giuseppa Del Castillo

Giuseppa Del Castillo, of North Brunswick, New Jersey, passed away on November 26, 2025, due to complications related to cancer. She was surrounded by family and loved ones on her journey. 

Giuseppa was born on February 24, 1934, in Cerda, a small village near Palermo, Sicily, from a family of 5 siblings. A single mother in her early 30’s, Giuseppa embarked on the biggest adventure of her life, to achieve the American Dream. She came to America all alone, with nothing in her possession, except her exceptional skills as a seamstress, along with her tremendous stoic mental strength and willingness to beat all odds. Indeed, she succeeded, despite the language barrier and the lack of emotional and family support. Giuseppa became one of the highest paid and respected pattern makers in the New York garment field. 

Giuseppa enjoyed making and altering clothes for her friends and family. Fiercely independent, she drove her car until a few weeks prior to her diagnosis. Her free time was filled with watching her beloved wrestling games, and the Italian programs on TV. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends, going to the Italian Culture Society (of which she was a member) for bingo games, socializing with her numerous Italian friends and neighbors, going shopping with them, exchanging visits, and celebrating one another’s birthdays.

Giuseppa will always be remembered for her fantastic authentic Sicilian cooking, her loyal friendships, and for her total selfless devotion to her family.

She was a communicant of St. Anne Society and St. Mary’s Church in New Brunswick.

Giuseppa was preceded in death by her: son, Salvatore Del Castillo; brothers, Gabriele, Benedetto and Calogero and her sister, Maria. 

Surviving are her granddaughter, Josephine Pearl Del Castillo; her sister in Italy, Vincenza, and her niece and nephews, Grazia, Emanuele, Vincenzo, Enzo, and Luciano. 

Visitation services will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ, and 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel. A Mass will be held 11:30 AM, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at St. Mary of Mount Virgin RC Church, 190 Sandford Street, New Brunswick, NJ. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick, NJ.
