Luis A Bezares

The epitome of love, the father every child dreams of, the grandfather every child yearns for, the uncle who loved without judgment, the brother who always showed up, and the friend everyone deserved: this was LUIS A. BEZARES (Wiso), 79, of New Brunswick, NJ, who was called to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Born on August 11, 1947, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Luis was predeceased by his father, Antonio Bezares of Río Grande, Puerto Rico, and his mother, Felicita Robles of New Brunswick, New Jersey, formerly of Río Grande. He grew up in Río Grande, Puerto Rico as a very proud, hardworking young man who helped his father build their family’s humble home. He later moved to the United States, eventually settling in New Brunswick, where he raised a family, worked hard, and retired as a machine operator.

Luis’s biggest and proudest accomplishment were his four surviving children, who gave him the title of “best father in the world” and considered him their best friend: Maritza Bezares (partner, Ariel Soto); Mildred Bezares-Mendez (husband, Carlos “Chinito” Mendez); Luis M. Bezares; and Anthony Bezares. He also leaves behind his crown jewel grandchildren: Luis “Pookie” Bezares, Jasmine Maldonado, Amaris Maldonado, Carlos “Ito” Mendez, Idalise “Lalie” Mendez, Jenise “Morre” Mendez, Aneudis “Andy” Soto, Jayden Bezares, and Melody Bezares. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Eva Bezares. He is also survived by his treasured great-grandchildren: Jasmarie Rosario, Elijah Rosario, Liath Bezares, Aria Grullon, Liam Bezares, Joziah Cates, E’vie Jackson, and Evangeline Bezares.

Luis was predeceased by his older brother, Deacon, Antonio Bezares of Edison, NJ and is survived by his older brother, Bienvenido “William” Bezares of Río Grande, PR; his older sister, Angelina Maisonet of New Brunswick, NJ; his younger sister, Matilde Zayas of Orlando, FL; and his younger brothers, Wilfredo Bezares and Israel Bezares, both of Río Grande, PR. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members whom he loved dearly.

Luis “Wiso” Bezares will be remembered always, and his legacy will live on through his devotion to his family and to everyone who crossed his path, his unconditional, non-judgmental love, his extraordinary strength, and his ability to make his loved ones a priority. He showed up for others no matter the circumstance. Whosever life he touched, they were truly privileged.
