Our beloved mother and wife Mabel Arinzeh passed away on Wednesday, December 21,2022 at her home in Somerset, New Jersey. She was 78 years old.
Mabel was born on November 28, 1944 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and came to the United States in 1974. She earned a BA degree in Accounting from Kean University and held positions in accounting for Revlon Corporation and Job Corp. before becoming an entrepreneur.
Mabel and her husband Julius Arinzeh opened the first black owned pharmacy in Somerset County in 1990, which they later sold to RiteAid Corporation. Mabel also built a portfolio of real estate assets including a strip mall and multifamily homes.
Mabel was extremely proud of her Nigerian heritage and Igbo culture and was very active in building and strengthening the Nigerian community in New Jersey and Nigeria. She was a strong woman of faith and was actively involved and attended mass regularly at her beloved St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church. Mabel was also deeply passionate about helping the underprivileged - her home and heart were a haven to those in need and she gave tirelessly to various causes dear to her heart.
Mabel was the brightest star and will never be forgotten. Family, friends, parishioners and associates will always remember her life of hard work, generosity, compassion, faith, and loving spirit.
Mabel is survived by her: husband, Julius; four children, Uchenna (wife, Gail), Uzochukwu (wife, Treena), Ugoada, and Ukachi; four grandchildren, Nneka, Quintin (Emeka), Nnenia, and Nnamdi.
Visitation will be 4PM-7PM, Thursday, January 26, 2023, Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM, Friday, January 27, 2023, St. Matthias Church, 168 John F Kennedy Blvd., Somerset, NJ.
