Michael H. Greenstone

Michael H. Greenstone, 83, passed away on August 11, 2026. He was born and grew up in the Weequahic section of Newark and attended Peshine Avenue School. When he was 13, he moved with his family to Irvington. He graduated from Irvington High School in 1961 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson. Michael was a volunteer member of the Army National Guard and lived on a base in Anniston, Alabama with his wife Susan when his unit was activated during the Vietnam War, before returning to New Jersey to start their family.

From a young age he had a strong work ethic, working at a variety of jobs in his youth. After graduating from college he became an accountant and later worked as a Comptroller in the building industry. He also served as a Certified Public Accountant to many private clients. In addition, he generously provided pro bono accounting services to those in need, because more than anything, he thrived on helping people. Along with his wife he volunteered for years with the East Brunswick Chapter of Deborah and was a longtime member of Highland Park Conservative Temple and Center where he ushered high holiday services for years.

He had an analytical mind and in addition to using that skill set in his profession, he applied it to meticulously and rigorously researching antiques that he had inherited from his father’s antique store, showing incredible perseverance to research them over years and sometimes decades until he solved the puzzle.

Michael is survived by family members to whom he was beloved and who he loved dearly, including his daughters Erica Greenstone of Helmetta, NJ and Jessica Greenstone Winestone of Burlington, MA, his sister Marilyn Barr, his granddaughters Elliana and Samara, his son-in-law Rob, his sisters-in-law Elaine Fromkin and Marian Campisi, his nephews and grandnephew. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Susan Greenstone, his parents Irma and Edward Greenstone, his brother-in-law Arnold Barr, and his parents-in-law, Ida and Julius Rand.

Michael was an incredibly loyal family member and showed his support and pride for his family in many ways. He was deeply devoted to his wife, Susan, and daughters, attentively caring for them through the stages of their lives. It is hard to imagine a more thoughtful person than he was, or one who was more driven and energetic. He will be deeply missed for the love he showed, his incredibly quick wit, and his inquisitive nature.
