Richard D Stein

August 31, 1940 — May 14, 2024

North Brunswick, NJ

Richard D. Stein, affectionately known as Rickey, has left a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He passed away on May 14, 2024 in New Brunswick, NJ.

Born in Jersey City on August 31, 1940, Rickey was the beloved son of Samuel and Betty (nee Ershkowitz) Stein. He was a cherished big brother to Susan Dimont (George Dimont) and Evie Barson (Stephen Barson). In 1962, he married his eternal love Dana (nee Michael) Stein and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter and joy. Rickey was a devoted father to Alyson, Pamela (Alan Gorberg), and Robyn, and took great pride in being a loving grandpa to Lovey D Mutt (even though she isn’t a cat).

Rickey's passion for life extended beyond his family as he dedicated years to his career as a pharmacist. He was a founding member of the Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple Adult Volunteer Choir 50 years ago and 20 years ago for Makhelat HaMercaz choir. He also contributed his beautiful voice to Kol Dodi choir. His dedication to music earned him the endearing nickname "Rickey Recordo" due to his meticulous collection of recordings from every concert.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Rickey had a wide range of hobbies including Latin music—especially Cuban rhythms—dancing, learning new languages, collecting license plates, listening to short wave scanners, photography, model car collecting, stamp collecting, and maintaining pen pal connections in Spain and Argentina. He was bilingual in Spanish and loved to use his knowledge in Puerta Vallarta.  He loved new and old family photos and posting and reposting them on Facebook was a daily activity.

Rickey’s warm spirit attracted friends from around the globe through his shared hobbies. He co-authored the book "300 Ways to Ask the Four Questions" showcasing his creativity and love for sharing knowledge with others. Rickey found solace basking in the sunshine on beaches during summers in Belmar and in Januarys in Puerta Vallarta.

A dedicated member of the community, Rickey’s memory will live on through donations made to Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple. His funeral service will be held at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple in New Brunswick on Thursday May 16th at 11 am followed by burial at Beth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Stein Residence where loved ones can come together to honor Rickey’s remarkable life.
