Tomasa Soto Alicea

December 30, 1950 — February 16, 2023

Tomasa Soto Alicea was born in Vega Baja, PR December 30, 1950. She was the loving
wife of Jose Manuel Soto and the mother of Sandra (Robert), Virginio, and Eliezer
(deceased). Loving grandmother to Lysandra (Anthony), Shaquela, Jacquez, Ryan,
Tomasio, L’Shawn, and Ethan. Adoring great-grandmother to Damien “Bubba.”
Tomasa relocated to New Brunswick, NJ, at age 15 from PR. There she met her first
husband, Virginio Bermudez, with who she shared her three children. When Tomasa
and Virginio separated, she became a single parent, and at no point did she ever give up
working hard to make the best of the life handed to her.
Tomasa was very active in her church, teaching Bible Study to young children in the
Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia. She also enjoyed bringing the word of God through
missionary work, visiting the ill and those incarcerated.
In June of 1986, she married the love of her life Jose Manuel Soto, who stepped in as an
amazing father and grandfather.
In 1987, Tomasa earned her Child Care Training Sensitivity for Children certification at
Temple University. She then started her Family Home Day Care in her South
Philadelphia Home. In 1995, Tomasa became a foster parent to children in need in the
Philadelphia Area.
In 1998, Tomasa and Jose relocated to Florida, PR, returning to Easton, PA, in 2011,
where they purchased a home.
Tomasa was always caring for others and did it with a faithful heart. She never asked for
anything in return. In 2004, Tomasa adopted her grandson Tomasio who she continued
to care for until her passing. She also cared for her youngest son, Eliezer, through his
MS illness until his passing in 2013.
She loved with all her heart and touched many lives throughout her time on this earth.
May you remember her contagious laughter and stern discipline to those close to her,
where she never hesitated to speak her truth.
May she rest in heaven alongside her son Eliezer; sisters Alejandrina and Iris; brothers
Daniel and Eduardo; and nephews/nieces, most recently Nelly, Olimpio, and Delfin.
